Amazing

We extended our stay an additional night! Did not want to leave. We booked two room types due to this decision, the hotel let us stay is what was the better room that we booked, for the whole duration. The food was stunning what an amazing buffet. You can go for long walks and runs along the beachfront and your in the middle of the strip for anything restaurant and shopping related. Just perfect. Complimentary yoga was great. Fresh coconut water is a must try! Hope to come back one day.

Lovely Hotel

We had great 5 night stay at the Maya Sanur. After staying at a big hotel in Nusa dua for 5 nights prior it was so lovely to come to a more boutique smaller hotel and be spoiled by the lovely friendly and helpful staff at Maya. We had The Nest room and it was really spacious. A big bathroom with 2 vanitys and a separate shower and toilet cubicle. King size bed and daybed outside so loads of room to relax. We had the Luxury Escapes deal and it was great value. Breakfast was really good as everything such as fruit and hot food was so fresh. Warm freshly baked pastries every morning were a real treat too! We had dinner each night as part of our deal and we enjoyed all the meals. There is a Japancese restaurant or the main Tree Bar restaurant that has live music at night. There are plenty of other restuarants along the beach front though if you prefer more variety. The pool area is nice with lounges for either shade or sun but the beach is quite tidal so not really that nice for swimming but fine to just lay and listen to the waves and then jump in the pool to cool off. The pool access rooms seemed to have the pool in the shade for most of the day so keep that in mind if thinking of booking a pool access room. It may change at different times of the year though as sun moves. All the staff were so friendly especially Suci, Okra and Muliana from Tree Bar. We did a private cooking class with Endra and it was great! We then ate the food we cooked at a lovely table all set up just for us in the restaurant. For $80 for 2 people we thought it was good value as we got the cooking class, a drink on arrival, the aprons we used during class to keep, recipe booklet and the meal which was about 6 different dishes so we were very full! We will definitely be looking out for another LE deal at Maya again as it was great value and definitely a hotel we would recommend to friends and family.

Dommage

Finally a Luxury Escape!

MAYA RESORT AND SPA, SANUR Now this is more like it! If the Maya is 5* then the other resorts we had stayed at were lucky to be 3*. From the moment you pulled up outside the cavernous entranceway it just kept getting better. We were directed up the wide curving ramp to reception, a misnomer in itself.. We came out into another huge cave-like hall which looked like someone had ‘graffitied’ the walls until you realised it was all artwork, from everywhere you looked, the art, the huge carved logs, and statuary, it was everywhere you and it continued throughout the resort, including your room. After the preliminaries, including real juice this time, and a cold refreshing towel, we were advised that our room would be another hour but we were welcome to use the facilities. From the balcony of reception we could see, way off in the distance the sea. It was like looking down a telescope of green with a ribbon of blue from the lap pool that runs the length of the building., that lap pool by the way is 185m long, and forms part of the pool villa rooms. We went down to the Tree Bar which is co-located with the main swimming pool and restaurant right on the seafront. What better way to fill in an hour looking out to sea and the reef that runs the full length of Sanur with a cold Bintang. We were taken to our room on the second floor by the bus boy with our luggage. Stunning. All the rooms face the lap pool and main pathway. Wardrobe, safe, mini bar and coffee point on your left, which opens out into the main room with full height glass wall the width of the room. Large king size bed, side tables and full size couch with a fitted divan running the length of the bedroom finishing in the desk. OK, so not so different from other hotel rooms. Wrong. It was the small touches everywhere that make the difference. The switch cabinet set into the divan with all the USB connections, power for the laptops, provision to stream direct to the TV. Fresh fruit and flowers on the desk top. Changed regularly of course. All of the furniture throughout including your room is solid timber, beautifully done; and this continues in the restaurant and bar, from the beautifully crafted timber light shades that move gently in the ever present sea breeze to the huge timber art pieces in reception. Small touches. Back to the mini bar; fully stocked with water, beer, red and white wine, chips and chocolates (for a price). In the shelves , in a blue velvet drawer are the real crystal wine and scotch glasses, below that the tea and coffee, electric jug, and of course the pod coffee maker. Small touches again, an ironing board and iron, reading light set into the ceiling (minor criticism, they weren’t adjusted properly, got to have something to complain about), bed light and night light on each side of the bed. The night light providing light from under the bed and in the skirting board. This of course needed after the nightly turn down and the heavy drapes drawn. Outside is a large balcony with double lounge. Now to the “piece de resistance” the bathroom. It has a floor to ceiling glass wall the full length of the room, tiling through the rest. Two basins with the most amazing back lit mirrors, real indoor plants, a beautiful bath set in an alcove, toilet on one side and shower on the other, all beautifully tiled and immaculately clean. There were smoked glass doors on toilet and shower, but for additional privacy why wouldn’t you have a full length 10m electric blind. As with all Bali hotels the grounds are immaculate. But, put simply the architecture of the whole property is stunning. It is composed of grey volcanic rock and concrete, that weathers beautifully in the tropics. The Tree Bar (so called because of the tree growing through the floor and ceiling) which overlooks the sea, on two levels it is very comfortable and links with the swimming pool and the dining room. Live entertainment each night and the usual lovely gentle staff. It is upmarket though, all the staff in the dining room, bar and pool side are “wired for sound”, they all have iPads and sound systems linked to the bar and kitchen. The pool lounges have call buttons so the “poor” people don’t have to get up to order drinks and food. It is all rather seamless but still with the right attitude and touch to make you feel welcome. The restaurant provides a very comprehensive breakfast catering to all tastes, even, - a first for me – a white chocolate tower with strawberry skewers, for breakfast! The food, bread and pastries are fresh every morning, egg station, crepes and pancakes cooked to order. Snacks are provided all day, as is room service and dinner of a night. Quite a varied menu again and all beautifully presented, a French Executive Chef helps. There is a second restaurant that we haven’t tried. It is out on the street and is a large Japanese restaurant that also seems to be very popular. There are any number of bars and restaurants on the street so you will never go hungry. We did notice on our way in in the car that Sanur seems to have gone upmarket since our last stay here some five years ago. It is busy, but it is relative compared to Kuta etc, there are a number of very upmarket shops and restaurants and just as many local shops and noisy bars. You seem to be able to breathe easier here without the mayhem. If I had a small criticism it would be the TV. The remote was hit and miss but the hotel site had everything you wanted, however when it came to TV channels I cannot figure why they don’t use a streaming service rather than a collection of channels, the majority Indonesian, and very few English speaking channels. There were very few Indonesians staying in the hotel that I could see. We could see ABC news, but not ABC Australia, which we got in Jimbaran, and which provides a very good service including sport. As I said very minor in the big picture. The beachfront at Sanur has also been an attraction, not for swimming but for walking, or these days cycling along the paved footpath that runs the length of the Sanur coastline. There is constant water sport, particularly wind surfing, on the shallow stretch of water some 300m out to the reef. There are the usual touts and people selling their wares, wares you have seen everywhere else in Bali, and many locals particularly on the weekend. All in all it is very peaceful and laid back, particularly in comparison to Kuta and Seminyak. From the beach you can see Lembongan island to the west and to the north Gunung Agung – The Mother Mountain, sacred to the Balinese – on a clear day. It sounds dumb but you, or I anyway, seemed to visibly relax once we were settled into the routine of Maya. They have another resort at Ubud, with a free shuttle, and if it is anywhere as good as Sanur it must surely be on your bucket list.

Quiet Relaxing Hotel in central Sanur Beach Location

We stayed here for seven nights In September. The weather was Idyllic although the pool was just a little cool at first to get into. We loved our bright spacious Impressive Suite with peaceful views out through the tree tops. Happy hours and dinner overlooking the peaceful beach was the highlight of our stay. Their coffee and croissant breakfast special served by the delightful Ririn and her fellow waiters was the perfect slow start to our days spent lying by the pool and taking long walks along the boardwalk.

Loved the nest suite

We have previously stayed in a pool access room, this time we stayed on a higher floor in a nest suite. These rooms are even more impressive and bigger and the outdoor lounge area was fantastic to use in early September before it is too hot. Do yourself a favour and get some feather pillows and a duvet, they’re even more comfortable than the ones already in the room.

Another amazing stay

Loved our third stay at Maya. Rooms are super comfortable, location is great right next to the path by the beach. Had dinner at the Japanese restaurant out front of the hotel which was fantastic - food was tasty, staff were attentive and even better 20% off the bill as we’re staying at the hotel. Wouldn’t stay anywhere else in Maya.

A very nice place for short or longer term stay

We did not stay at the resort but did go several times for dinners and drinks. A very nice venue, great food and nicely priced. On one of our visits, I attempted to use my debit card and it did not work so I paid cash. On returning home, I discovered that my account had indeed been charged. I contacted the resort and explained to them what had happened. They looked into it right away and got back to me with information
